Saroa - Due to the lack of attention of the government on the poor condition of Garhshankar-Sri Anandpur Sahib main road in Sri Anandpur Sahib Lok Sabha constituency for a long time, Kar Seva under the leadership of Sant Baba Sucha Singh and Sant Baba Satnam Singh, head of Kila Anandgarh Sahib. The renovation of this road by Sangat is expected to emerge as a major election issue for political parties in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Seeing the changing nature of this road under the guidance of saints, the Sangat going to Sri Anandpur Sahib, the birthplace of Khalsa Panth, are bowing down after seeing this car service. Besides, the neglect of roads by governments is also being criticized from time to time. Let us tell you here that various parties had made many election promises to make this road, which passes through five out of nine assembly constituencies of Sri Anandpur Sahib Lok Sabha constituency, a four-lane one. But in reality no action has been taken towards the renovation of this road.
In January 2019, the then Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh had announced to make Sri Anandpur Sahib-Banga-Garhshankar road four-lane. But this announcement was also considered a joke and forgotten. Before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, on 25 February 2019, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari had laid the foundation stone for four-laning of Banga-Garhshankar-Sri Anandpur Sahib road as a national highway at a cost of Rs 473 crore. But before that, due to not taking any steps to improve the poor condition of this road, Akali-BJP alliance candidate Professor Prem Singh Chandumajra had to face a crushing defeat. With this defeat, the renovation of the road was also limited to laying the foundation stone.
At present, this road is being widened by the devotees with full zeal and enthusiasm on the initiative of Sant Baba Sucha Singh and Sant Baba Satnam Singh, the head of Kar Seva Kila Anandgarh Sahib. Financial assistance is also being provided to the devotees going to Shri Anandpur Sahib, the nearby villages and the sevadars working here for this work. Now widening this road from Garhshankar to Sri Anandpur Sahib by 15 to 20 feet on both sides will also provide relief from accidents happening to the devotees. Before the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, what will the leaders of various parties convey to the voters during the election campaign regarding the issue of making this road four lane? This issue has become a dilemma for the leaders contesting the elections.
