Chandigarh January 11, 2024 - Changing the lyrics of the song sundar mundariye from dulhe ne dhi vyayi to dulhe ne dhi padhayi, the Dept-cum-Centre for Women’s Studies and Development, Panjab University, Chandigarh organised a unique Lohri function on the campus here today. 
The girl as per this new version of the traditional sundar muderiye song goes on to do post-graduation, even going to space and bringing laurels for her nation. Patriarchy, inequality and violence against women were targeted through an effigy which was consigned to the flames. The celebrations culminated with everyone joining in a gidha to the tune of bolis which proclaimed gender equality, such as pachian pinan de vich main patwari, and patriarchy nu vech ke hero Honda laina. The programme was attended by faculty members, research scholars, students as well as non-teaching staff of various department of the University.
