Nawanshahr - Today, Jamahur Adhikar Sabha, Rational Society and other democratic organizations protested against the Delhi Governor's approval to file a case against Arundhati Roy and Prof Sheikh Shaukat Hussain on the basis of a 14-year-old complaint against UAPA. A protest was held at Nawanshahr demanding the immediate withdrawal of criminal laws. After this, copies of criminal laws were burnt in front of the DC office and a memorandum addressed to the President of India was handed over to the Deputy Commissioner.
Addressing on this occasion, District Secretary of Democratic Rights Council Jasbir Deep, State Committee Member Buta Singh, State Convener of Democratic Lawyers Association Daljit Singh Advocate, Chief of Rational Society Zone Nawanshahr Satpal Saloh said that the BJP government at the center has captured the entire system. To accommodate, the Judiciary has renamed the earlier IPC laws as the Hitlerite Laws. With the implementation of these laws across the country from July 1, people's personal freedom and opinion will be in danger because any criticism of the government will come under the ambit of crime.
The leaders said that when the new criminal law is implemented, the police will be able to register a pamphlet against those who criticize and speak against the government.
These laws are being brought to enforce the rule of the rod by tightening all the sections of this new judicial code. He said that three dozen public democratic organizations of Punjab have decided to cancel these black laws by forming a common platform to build a country-level mass democratic movement to repeal these black laws. He said that there should be a strong voice against filing a sedition case against prominent intellectuals Arudhanti Roy, Professor Shaukat Hussain.
He said that despite the rejection by the people in the Lok Sabha elections, the Modi government has imposed an undeclared emergency in the country. Emergency was declared on June 26, 1975 to prosecute famous writer Arandhuti Roy and Prof. Shaukat Hussain under the UAPA Act. But since 2014, the period of undeclared emergency has been going on, which is getting more intense despite decreasing day by day, as an example of which are the three new criminal laws coming into effect from July 1, which supersede the Rowlatt Act. The imposition of UAPA on Arundhati Roy and Professor Shaukat Hussain is an attack on the fundamental constitutional and democratic rights of citizens to express their opinions through writing and speech. And the move is to suppress dissent. This fascist step is being strongly condemned at the world level And the demand to revoke this approval is an important demand. Passed in the same way
Demanding immediate withdrawal and annulment of the orders to implement the three criminal laws from July 1, termed baseless the central government's argument that they are meant to replace colonial laws. But on a careful reading, it is clear that there is nothing new in them, rather, the laws of the British state have been renamed and other clauses have been added to them, which violate the achievements of the freedom struggle and the guidelines of the Supreme Court. These violate the fundamental and democratic rights of citizens as well as constitutional and civil liberties and are a step towards imposing a totalitarian police state over the people in the name of justice. There is an attempt to nullify the rights for which our forefathers fought a long battle against the colonial rulers and made sacrifices. Speakers have expressed fear that after the implementation of these laws, worse conditions will arise. Citizens will be subjected to the oppression of the state, and all the freedoms and democratic rights of the citizens will be lost and the entire administrative structure will also come under the grip of the police-system. In fact, the draft of these three criminal laws is more terrible than the emergency of 1975 and not only the citizens, even the administrative officers and judges will have to bow their heads in the will of power, which will push towards the end of the soul of democracy. The speakers invited the people of Punjab to fully participate in the convention being held at Jalandhar on July 21 to raise awareness against these dangerous laws.
