Balongi, Oct 9 – The increasing number of PG centers in Ekta Colony of Balongi has led to daily street jams due to parking, which has caused severe distress to the residents.
Balongi residents Rajwinder, Kamalpreet Singh, Chhote Lal, Kuyum Khan and others said that PG centers are being built continuously in Balongi and neither the government stops them nor any action is taken by the officials of Gamada.
He said that when a person constructs a house, it is stopped as unauthorized construction, but no action has been taken by GAMADA against those who are constructing PGs (in which 30 to 80 rooms are constructed).
He said that people from outside areas live in these PGs and because the PG centers do not provide parking facilities to the people living here, the people living in the PGs park their vehicles and motorcycles on the street. There is always a traffic jam here and the residents have to face a lot of hardship.
He said that the PG is located somewhere else, but these people park the vehicle at some other place and when someone leaves the vehicle, they do not know which PG person has the vehicle and come to the street. It is hard to go. He said that if a person's health deteriorates during the night and an ambulance has to be called, then it becomes impossible for the vehicle to enter the street. Similarly, if a person wants to take his vehicle to an event at night, he does not get a way to come and go.
He said that earlier people who came from outside had built PGs here to make their own income, who themselves live elsewhere and now the residents of Balongi are also tearing down their already built houses and building PGs in the greed of earning. And the number of these PG centers is increasing continuously.
He said that by constructing 5-storey buildings in Balongi, PGs are being constructed there and various people live in these PG centers. They have neither police verification nor anyone has any information about these people. During the recent raids conducted by NIA in Punjab, raids have also taken place in Balongi, which shows that anti-social elements are also setting up locations in these PG centers.
He demanded that these PG centers should be taken seriously and strict rules should be enforced on them. Along with this, verification of the people living in all the PGs in Balongi should be done.
