Hoshiarpur - According to the directions of Health Department Punjab, Civil Surgeon Hoshiarpur Dr. Pawan Kumar Shagotra and NPCB Nodal Officer Dr. Kamlesh Kumari under the leadership of Senior Medical Officer in charge Civil Hospital Dr. Swati at Eye Department of Civil Hospital Hoshiarpur under the leadership of fortnightly eye donation program.
Hoshiarpur - According to the directions of Health Department Punjab, Civil Surgeon Hoshiarpur Dr. Pawan Kumar Shagotra and NPCB Nodal Officer Dr. Kamlesh Kumari under the leadership of Senior Medical Officer in charge Civil Hospital Dr. Swati at Eye Department of Civil Hospital Hoshiarpur under the leadership of fortnightly eye donation program. Eye donation awareness material was displayed in OPD and people present there were made aware about eye donation. Surgeon Dr. Minu Sidhu, Dr. Manpreet Kaur, Dr. Mandeep Kaur, Deputy Mass Media Officer Dr. Tripta Devi, Deputy Mass Media Officer Ramandeep Kaur, District BCC Coordinator Amandeep Singh and other staff were present on this occasion. Addressing the people present on this occasion, Dr. Minu Sidhu said that according to the World Health Organization, after cataract and glaucoma, cornea related diseases are the main causes of eye damage and blindness. Posthumous eye donation can brighten the dark life of two people. Eye donation registration forms are available at District Hospitals, Sub-Divisional Hospitals and Vision Centres. He appealed to the people to come forward and participate in the noble cause of donating eyes after death and giving the gift of sight to the needy. Deputy Mass Media Officer Dr Tripta Devi said that myths and misconceptions related to eye donation can be removed through awareness. He said that due to lack of awareness, people burn the dead person along with his living eyes which could be useful to another blind person. We need to be aware of this. Deputy Mass Media Officer Ramandeep Kaur said that anyone can donate eyes at any age. A person suffering from black jaundice, HIV cannot donate eyes, everyone else can brighten the dark life of another person by donating their eyes.
