A senior official of the transport department said that the state government has not banned old vehicles in view of public opposition after the implementation of the scrap policy. He said that we had two objectives behind imposing green tax. First, removing old vehicles from the road to control pollution. The departmental officer said that earlier the motor vehicle tax of a 65-seat tourist bus was Rs 7000 per seat. Now Rs 2050 will be charged per seat on a normal bus, Rs 2650 on a deluxe non-AC bus, Rs 4150 on an AC deluxe bus and Rs 5,000 per seat on a super integral bus.
