Una, June 15 - Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Mahendra Pal Gurjar has directed all the officers associated with disaster management in Una district to remain alert round the clock in view of the arrival of monsoon. He said that the department should make preparations and arrangements in advance to protect life and property in case of emergency. Rescue teams should be ready at all times. He asked the officers and employees to keep their mobile phones in working condition at all times.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner was presiding over the meeting of the District Disaster Management Authority held in the DRDA auditorium on Saturday. In the meeting, he took stock of the preparations of various departments for disaster management regarding monsoon and gave necessary guidelines.
He said that the lessons learnt from the preparations for the massive disaster that occurred during last year's monsoon should be used for better management. He said that this time, prepare a strategy for the areas that were affected by the disaster during the last monsoon. Take precautionary measures at accident prone sites. Ensure proper arrangements for keeping the roads smooth during the rainy season and removing debris from the roads in case of landslides.
Drains should not be choked
Mahendra Pal Gurjar asked to pay attention to making the flow in ditches and drains unobstructed. He stressed on the cleanliness of the flow path of rain drains and drains in villages and cities and instructed the concerned officials to ensure that the drains are not choked so that the drainage of water is proper during the rainy season. He asked the Block Development Officers to run a cleanliness campaign in the concerned areas with the help of Panchayat representatives.
All departments should work in coordination with each other
The Additional Deputy Commissioner asked all the departments to work in mutual coordination. He directed the concerned departments to keep themselves fully prepared for proper arrangements of water drainage in case of disaster, storage and distribution of food items and other essential items, life saving medicines and mobile medical teams. He asked the education department officials to submit the list of schools prone to flood or waterlogging and safety of school buildings. He stressed on training the teachers in such schools on disaster management.
He directed to organize refresher training workshops for disaster friends. He also asked to ensure that village level disaster management committees are formed and activated in the villages. He asked the health department officials to ensure that medicines for treatment of snakebite are available in sufficient quantity in every health institution. All panchayat representatives should also be aware of this.
Mahendra Pal Gurjar said that in view of the monsoon season, if any tree is in a state of falling near residential areas or office buildings and there is a possibility of loss of life and property, then prior information should be immediately given to the District Disaster Management Authority. So that appropriate steps can be taken in time to remove such trees which pose a threat to life and property.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner said that a permanent control room has been set up in the Deputy Commissioner's office for regular information on monsoon activities and proper management of safety of life and property in case of any disaster. He appealed to the people to immediately inform in case of any emergency by calling 1077. Apart from this, you can also call the District Emergency Control Room established at the district headquarters on telephone numbers 1975-225045, 225046 225049 and 225052 regarding disaster.
