Chandigarh, August 26 Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said that the threatening letter of Punjab Governor Banwari Lal Purohit recommending the imposition of President's rule in the state is an insult to three and a half crore Punjabis. They are unyielding and will not compromise to protect the interests of Punjab. Talking to the media here today, the Chief Minister said that the Governor has deeply hurt the sentiments of the unpopular and hard-working Punjabis who have sacrificed immeasurably for the unity and integrity of the country and made the country self-sufficient in terms of food grains. The Chief Minister said that it is true that the Governor knows under whose pressure he has written this letter, but the words of this letter directly undermine the Punjabis, because the Punjabis, who love democracy, elected the government by giving a big fatwa a year and half ago. He said that the governor has no right to threaten the elected representatives of the people. He said that according to the constitution, people have full right to choose the government of their choice, but on the behest of the central government, non-BJP governments including Delhi, West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu are not being allowed to work by the governors there. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the Governor has threatened to impose President's rule in Punjab under Article 356. He said that Punjab is the state in the country which has suffered the most due to misuse of Article 356. It is very sad that in the past the arbitrariness and bullying of the Central Governments has attacked Punjab on its own villages and now once again the Central Government through the Governor has tried to destroy the democratic values in Punjab. The Chief Minister said that actually the governor is plotting to take over the reins of power and is threatening to remove his government from power. He advised the governor to try his luck in the upcoming assembly elections of Rajasthan.
