Every year 12th May is celebrated as International Nurses Day to commemorate the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale, at PGIMER, Chandigarh. International Nurses Week is being celebrated from 12th to 18th May, 2024 to mark the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing profession. The theme for this year is "Our Nurses Our Future: The Economic Power of care.
The week-long activities started with inaugural function, organized at Bhargava Auditorium PGIMER, Chandigarh on 12tn May 2024 by the Department of Nursing. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Prof. Radha Kant Ratho, Sub Dean, PGIMER, Chandigarh and the Guest of Honour was Prof. Vipin Kaushal, Medical Superintendent,PGIMER, Chandigarh and Prof. Arun Bansal, Additional MedicalSuperintendent ,PGIMER Chandigarh. The inaugural address was read by Mrs. Jaspal Kaur, Acting CNO. The theme was introduced by Dr. Sukhpal Kaur, Principal, NINE.
Prof. Radha Kant Ratho encouraged and motivated the Nursing officers for better patient care. Prof. Vipin Kaushal Medical Superintendent PGI appreciated the role of nursing personnel in providing health care services and encouraged them to do their best. Prof. Arun Bansal emphasized that the nurses should be imparted further training to sharpen their knowledge and skills. The Nurses Day celebration will be followed by blood donation camp, symposium on the theme, Fruit Distribution and Valedictory function.
