Chandigarh: Punjab State Child Rights Protection Commission Chairman Kanwardeep has condemned the unfortunate incident of
parents poisoning their 3 innocent little girls due to financial hardship in Jalandhar district.
Expressing deep grief regarding this incident, Chairman Kanwardeep Singh said that killing innocent little girls is a very bad
incident and the culprits should be given exemplary punishment so that no one commits such a crime in the future. He said that
this unfortunate incident has hurt me a lot.
The chairman appealed to the people that the parents who are unable to raise their children due to financial hardship should not
kill the children but send them to the child welfare committees so that the precious lives of the children can be saved. He said that
children are the future of the society and the nation, these children grow up and brighten the name of their country.
He said that laws have been made by the Punjab government for the welfare of children and there is a provision for committing
any kind of crime against children and giving severe punishments according to the law. Apart from this, under Section 35 of the
Juvenile Justice Care and Protection of Children Act, 2015, it is also provided that parents who are unable to maintain their
children, can give their children to the Child Welfare Committees. With which the lives of children can be saved.
He said that apart from child welfare committees, child protection units have been formed in every district. Parents can give
information regarding surrender of children by calling the child help line number 1098. Parents can hand over newborn or older
children to Child Welfare Committees, showing their inability to raise the children.
It is worth mentioning that the concerned parents are given two months time by the Child Welfare Committee, if even after two
months they remain adamant about their decision, then the process of adopting the children below 6 years of age to the needy
parents is started. Adoption is given to those in need and children above the age of six are brought up by the government in child
welfare institutions.
