Shivaji statue case: Contractor and consultant sent to police custody till September 10.

Mumbai, September 5 - A local court in Maharashtra's Sindhudurg district on Thursday remanded sculptor-contractor Jaideep Apte and structural consultant Chetan Patil to police custody till September 10 while hearing the case of the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj falling. Patil was arrested from Kolhapur on August 30, while Apte was arrested from Kalyan in Thane district on Wednesday night, nearly 10 days after the FIR was registered in connection with the incident.

A 35 feet tall statue of Maratha warrior Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Rajkot fort in Malwan tehsil of the district fell on August 26. This statue was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi about nine months ago.
The Sindhudurg police had registered an FIR against Apte and Patil under sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) relating to negligence and other offenses last month in connection with the fall of the idol.
