Hoshiarpur - District Commissioner Komal Mittal personally attended the harvesting of the wheat fields planted with surface seeder by 'The Lambra Kangri Cooperative Society', Village Lambra, Block Hoshiarpur-1 today. Conducted an assessment regarding the performance in the fields. Wheat was sown by the society last year through surface seeder and it was harvested today. The Deputy Commissioner said that by sowing through surface seeder, the cost comes down considerably. He said that last year wheat was sown in 80-85 hectares in the district through surface seeder, which is showing good results.
On this occasion, the Deputy Commissioner appealed to the farmers to adopt wheat sowing with surface seeder because with this method the cost of sowing wheat is very less and at the same time it is one of the cheapest methods of stubble management in the fields. And there is a good alternative. On this occasion, Dr. Harmandeep Singh, the officer of the Agriculture Department and the officer of the Statistics Wing were also present, in whose presence one marla of wheat sown with surface seeder was harvested and its yield was estimated. After this, the Deputy Commissioner went to the office of the society and took stock of the work done by them.
On this occasion, Agriculture Officer Dr. Harmandeep Singh said that the yield of wheat sown by this method is equal to that of conventionally sown wheat and there is no fear of reduction in wheat yield. He said that in wheat sown with surface seeder, the straw acts as a mulch, with which the wheat is protected from the risk of yield reduction due to high temperature at the time of ripening, and this mulch is later combined in the field itself as organic matter. And adds other elements to the ground. On this occasion, Dr. Deepak Puri from the Department of Agriculture, Agriculture Extension Officer Amandeep Singh, Naripjit Singh, Prabhajit Kaur, President of Lambra Cooperative Society Ranjit Singh, Secretary Jaswinder Singh Saini and farmers were present
