Nawanshahr - Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann today paid obeisance at the native village of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh on completion of two years of his tenure. On this occasion, he pledged to make greater efforts to make Punjab a leading state in every field to realize the dreams of the great martyr.
Addressing the gathering after dedicating the hi-tech museum to depict the life of Shaheed-e-Azam, the Chief Minister said that exactly two years ago, he assumed office only after taking oath on this holy land. The Chief Minister clearly said that in the last two years he has not rested even for a minute and continuous efforts are being made for the progress of the state. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that this land has been a source of inspiration for him and when he was elected MP for the first time, he came here to pay obeisance immediately after receiving the certificate. The Chief Minister lamented that even after more than 75 years of independence, the people of the country are still struggling for basic amenities. The Chief Minister said that after the formation of his government, it was decided that pictures of Shaheed Bhagat Singh and Dr BR Ambedkar would be installed in all government offices in the state. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that this initiative is a tribute to these two leaders as Shaheed Bhagat Singh brought freedom to the country while Babasaheb was the main framer of the Constitution of India, which is guiding our democracy. The Chief Minister said that both freedom and democracy are under threat today as the central government is leaving no stone unturned to sabotage them. He said that the voice of the opposition is being suppressed and central agencies are being used to silence their voice by twisting their arms. He said that conspiracies are being made to change the constitution of the country. The Chief Minister said that due to the good intentions of the state government, new schools, hospitals are being built today, 90 percent of the houses are being given free electricity, more than 43000 youths have been given jobs. He said that it was lacking during the previous governments due to which the state lagged behind in terms of progress. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that now the state government is exposing the real face of the previous governments. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that 70,000 crore rupees have been invested in the state so far through leading companies like Tata Steel, Sanatan Textiles. The Chief Minister said that the government is setting up new medical colleges in the state and work has been started on medical colleges in Hoshiarpur and Kapurthala. He said that students aspiring to get medical education no longer have to go to countries like Ukraine as these medical colleges provide quality medical education. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the previous governments did not pay any attention to this aspect, but his government is putting a lot of emphasis on this aspect. He said that the day is not far when Punjab will become the number one state of the country by leading the country in every field. The Chief Minister said that the Punjab government is making concerted efforts to revive the health and education system in the state. He said that until now it was a common man's compulsion to send his child to a government school, but within six months it will be his wish as the education system is undergoing major reforms. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that 'Schools of Eminence' have been established across the state to provide quality education to the students and similarly the government health infrastructure is also being upgraded.
The Chief Minister called on the people of the state to completely reject the governments that canceled the tableau of the state for the Republic Day parade. He said that Punjabis had sacrificed 90 percent for the freedom struggle, ignoring which these governments had canceled the state's tableaus during the Republic Day parade. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the step-motherly treatment of the state is intolerable as they have no right to cancel the Jhakis in the state which represent patriotism and nationalism.
The Chief Minister said that the state government has commissioned a private company GVK at a cost of Rs 1080 crore. A new success story has been written by buying the Goindwal Power Plant from Power. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that coal from Pachwara coal mine allotted to Punjab can be used only for government power plants. Therefore, with the purchase of this power plant, this coal can now be used to provide electricity to every region of the state. He further said that it is a matter of great pride and satisfaction that due to the pro-people decisions of the Punjab government, 90 percent of the consumers of the state are getting zero electricity bills. Taking a dig at some of the leaders who returned to the Akali Dal, the Chief Minister said that the political future of these leaders, who have been rejected many times by the people, is over. Earlier, the Chief Minister also paid homage to the martyr's father late Kishan Singh. They also offered flowers on the statue of Shaheed Bhagat Singh.
