"Recruitment scam" of 312 medical officers: Case registered against former chairman and five members

Patiala, December 19 – The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has registered a case against the former chairman of the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) and five of its former members for alleged irregularities in the recruitment of 312 Medical Officers (MOs) during the year 2008-2009. In this case, former MLA Dr. Satwant Singh Mohi has been arrested from Shutrana Constituency of Patiala District and raids are on to arrest the rest of the accused.

Patiala, December 19 – The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has registered a case against the former chairman of the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) and five of its former members for alleged irregularities in the recruitment of 312 Medical Officers (MOs) during the year 2008-2009. In this case, former MLA Dr. Satwant Singh Mohi has been arrested from Shutrana Constituency of Patiala District and raids are on to arrest the rest of the accused.
Disclosing this here today, the official spokesperson of the State Vigilance Bureau said that this case has been registered on the basis of the investigation report of the Special Investigation Team (SIT). The accused named in the case include SK Sinha chairman (deceased), Brigadier (retd) DS Grewal (deceased), Dr Satwant Singh Mohi, DS Mahal, former minister Lal Singh's daughter-in-law Ravinder Kaur and BJP spokesperson Anil Sarin. .
Giving further information in this regard, he said that on 22-11-2013, the Punjab and Haryana High Court disposed of the writ petitions challenging the irregularities in the recruitment of a total of 312 MOs on 100 and 212 posts by PPSC in two rounds. An SIT was ordered to be constituted to investigate the matter.
He further informed that the two-member SIT consisting of MS Bali, Joint Commissioner CBI (retd) and Suresh Arora, then Director General Vigilance Bureau has submitted its report in the High Court which proves that 312 doctors were arrested in the year 2008-2009. The entire election was riddled with irregularities.
According to this, an FIR has been registered in Vigilance Bureau's Patiala range under the relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Indian Penal Code against the then chairman and five members of PPSC.
