Chandigarh, January 23 - Plastic surgery expert Dr. Ramesh Kumar Sharma has said that successful reconstruction of the part removed in cancer treatment is possible. Dr Sharma (who is the Director of Plastic Surgery at Paras Health Panchkula) said that onco-surgeons are now reconstructing surgically removed body parts in conjunction with plastic surgeons during cancer treatment at Paras Health Panchkula.

Talking to reporters, he said that although the primary objective of cancer surgery is to completely remove the cancer-affected part But it often leaves large defects that can affect both function and appearance. It affects parts like head, neck and face.

He said that similarly breast cancer kills the patient twice. Some or all of the breast may need to be removed during cancer treatment. This causes a big injury to the woman's psyche. He said that plastic surgeons can now collaborate with onco surgeons to reconstruct a breast that has been removed at the same time.

On this occasion Dr. Rajan Sahu, Associate Director of Onco Surgery, Paras Health Panchkula said that simultaneous reconstruction in cancer surgery does not compromise cancer treatment. This helps onco-surgeons to be more radical in eradicating the disease, he said. Restoring function and appearance in cancer patients is as important as getting rid of the cancer, he said.
