19-04-2024:- Women in Cancer Research Scholar Award for her Contribution to Cancer Research. Dr. Anshika Chauhan, a Research Associate with Prof Arnab Pal, Department of Biochemistry PGIMER, Chandigarh, has been honored with the prestigious Women in Cancer Research Scholar Award by the American Association of Cancer Research (AACR). This recognition highlights her significant contributions to the field of cancer research.
Dr. Chauhan was presented with the Women in Cancer Research Scholar Award during the AACR 2024 Annual Conference held between April 5th and 10th, 2024 in San Diego, California, United States. The AACR awards this distinction to meritorious early-career scientists who demonstrate exceptional qualifications and potential professional benefit in the field of cancer research. One of the key factors in her selection for the award was her remarkable work on understanding the biology of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and identifying novel Liquid Biopsy-based biomarkers by analyzing gene expression of CTCs.
During her PhD, Dr. Chauhan developed an innovative and cost-effective in-house Fluorescence Activated Cell Sorting (FACS)-based CTC isolation strategy for live CTCs from oral squamous cell carcinoma patients. This strategy, which has been patented under the mentorship of Prof Arnab Pal and is suitable for developing countries, holds great promise in enhancing cancer diagnostics, particularly in resource-constrained settings.
The American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) is the leading cancer research organization dedicated to accelerating the conquest of cancer. Through its programs and services, the AACR fosters cancer and biomedical research, facilitates the rapid dissemination of new research findings, promotes science education and training, and advances the understanding of cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment worldwide.
Dr. Chauhan's recognition reflects her commitment to advancing cancer research and her significant contributions to the field. Her work in understanding CTC biology and identifying innovative biomarkers is invaluable for improving cancer diagnostics and ultimately enhancing patient outcomes.
