Punjabi writer Prof. Mewa Singh 'Tung Nahi Rahe'

Patiala, March 27 - Punjabi literary scholar Prof Mewa Singh Tung (87) passed away yesterday at Sanur. He was cremated today. President of Punjabi Sahitya Sabha Patiala, Dr. Darshan Singh 'Asht' expressed deep sorrow on the demise of Prof. Tung and said that he kept the Punjabi mother tongue high while fighting Gurbat.

Patiala, March 27 - Punjabi literary scholar Prof Mewa Singh Tung (87) passed away yesterday at Sanur. He was cremated today. President of Punjabi Sahitya Sabha Patiala, Dr. Darshan Singh 'Asht' expressed deep sorrow on the demise of Prof. Tung and said that he kept the Punjabi mother tongue high while fighting Gurbat. And despite the hardships, he enriched the stock of Punjabi literature with about a dozen books of research, poetry, stories and criticism. Sharing more details about Prof. Tung, Prof. Tung was born on March 15, 1938 in the village of Tung Bhai Ke Bade in Gujranwala district of Pakistan to mother Kartar Kaur and father Buta Singh. Tung's family came to Indian Punjab during 1947. He acquired high training in the field of Punjabi language and education and worked for a long time in the department of Punjabi at Khalsa College, Patiala and was also the head of this department. His first book was Bhai Vir Singh's Kavi Drishti (1971). After that he wrote research works like Santokh Singh Dhir, Role of Linguistics, Bikh Amrit (1972), Manu Pradesi J Thia (1973), Sangharsh (1973), Animal and Man (1974) and Death of Stories (1975). Wrote books. In his poems, where social issues are presented, there are satirical choices about economic, social and political issues in the stories. In today's condolence meeting, apart from Dr. Darshan Singh Asht, patrons of the meeting Dr. Gurbachan Singh Rahi, Babu Singh Rahal, Dr. Harpreet Singh Rana, General Secretary Davinder Patialvi, Navdeep Singh Mundi, Surinder Kaur Bara, Balbir Singh Dildar and Manwinderjit Singh also expressed deep condolences.
